**Torna** — the highest fort in the Pune district at 1,403 m — is steeped in Maratha history as the very first fort conquered by Shivaji Maharaj at the age of 16. This sprawling hill fort features massive stone walls, ancient gateways, several water cisterns, and the iconic **Bini Darwaza** (a needle-thin opening in the rock). The panoramic views from the top — encompassing Rajgad, Sinhagad, and the entire Sahyadri spine — make the challenging climb absolutely worth it.

They are comparable in difficulty. Torna has a slightly longer approach but Rajgad has steeper sections. Most trekkers do both on separate weekends.
Best time to visit?
Oct–Feb offers clear, cool weather. Monsoon makes the trail slippery and leech-infested. Summer is very hot.
Can Torna and Rajgad be combined?
They can be connected by a ridge trail, but it's an advanced 2-day expedition requiring good navigation skills.
