Peb Fort (Vikatgad) Trek
Overview
Peb Fort, also known as Vikatgad, sits on a small hillock near Panvel and is one of the easiest and most accessible monsoon treks near Mumbai. Despite its modest height, the trail offers a surprising variety — a forest path that opens into a narrow valley, a seasonal waterfall that you walk beside (and often through) during monsoon, and a small plateau at the top with views of the Panvel creek and the Konkan coastline. The short duration and easy gradient make it a popular choice for beginners, families, and anyone looking for a half-day nature walk that still feels like a proper trek.
Based in Maharashtra, this easy 1-day trek is best attempted during June, July, August, September, October, November, December — when the trail and surroundings are at their most rewarding.

FAQs
Is Peb Fort suitable for children?
Yes, Peb Fort is one of the most family-friendly treks near Mumbai. The trail is short (about 2 km each way), the gradient is gentle, and there are no dangerous sections. Children aged 6 and above can complete this trek comfortably at their own pace.
How do I reach the base village?
Peb Fort is near Panvel, about a 1.5-hour drive from central Mumbai or an hour from Navi Mumbai. The base village is well-connected by local trains (Panvel station) followed by a short auto-rickshaw ride or bus. Driving your own vehicle is the most convenient option.
Is there water available on the trail?
There is a seasonal stream near the base that flows during monsoon, but it is not reliable for drinking. Carry at least 1 litre of water per person. There are no shops on the trail, so pack snacks as well.
What is the best time to visit?
Monsoon (June to September) is the best time — the waterfall is active, the valley is lush green, and the stream crossings add a fun element. The trail can be done year-round, but it is dry and less scenic in summer.
Can I do this trek solo without a guide?
Yes, the trail is well-trodden and easy to follow on weekends when other trekkers are around. However, on weekdays or during heavy monsoon when the trail can be overgrown, a guide is recommended. If joining our group, a guide is included.
