Kalsubai Trek
Overview
# Kalsubai Trek from Mumbai
**Kalsubai** — at 1,646 m (5,400 ft) — is the highest peak in Maharashtra. Located in the Bhandardara region of the Sahyadris, this iconic summit draws trekkers from across the state who want to stand on the roof of Maharashtra. The trek involves a steep but well-defined trail through mountain villages, iron ladders on cliff sections, and a final ridge walk that opens up to an endless panorama of the Western Ghats. The sunrise view from the top is nothing short of spectacular.
Based in Maharashtra, this moderate 1-day trek is best attempted during February, October — when the trail and surroundings are at their most rewarding.

FAQs
Is Kalsubai harder than Rajgad?
Yes — Kalsubai has a steeper overall gradient and those iron ladders make it more challenging. It's considered the toughest of the "easy-access" Sahyadri treks.
Can you do Kalsubai in monsoon?
It's possible but very slippery on the ladders. Post-monsoon (Oct–Nov) offers the best views with minimal fog.
What is the best time to start?
A night start (2–3 AM) gets you to the summit for sunrise — the most popular and rewarding option. Day treks are also possible but can get hot.
