Mahabaleshwar & Kaas Plateau
Overview
The Mahabaleshwar & Kaas Plateau from Mumbai trip is a 2-day escape to Maharashtra's most popular hill station — and for good reason. Just 5 hours from the city, Mahabaleshwar is perched at 1,350 metres in the Western Ghats, offering sweeping valley views, strawberry farms, ancient temples, and the legendary Table Land that inspired Arthur Conan Doyle's Lost World.
This 2-day trip covers all the highlights — Arthur's Seat, Wilson Point sunrise, Mapro Garden, and a visit to the stunning Kaas Plateau (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), which blooms with over 850 species of wildflowers during the monsoon and post-monsoon season.
We travel by private vehicle or bus from Mumbai — no train needed, making this one of the most accessible getaways on the list.
Kaas Plateau, lying about 25 km from Mahabaleshwar, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that turns into a rolling carpet of wildflowers during its brief flowering season from August to October, a phenomenon unique to the Western Ghats. Mahabaleshwar itself is one of the highest hill stations in the range, known for viewpoints like Arthur's Seat and Wilson Point, its strawberry farms and boating on Venna Lake. Its cool climate has made it a favourite retreat since the British era, and the drive up winds through forests and valleys often wrapped in mist during the monsoon.
This 2-day Mahabaleshwar & Kaas Plateau from Mumbai trip is priced at ₹4499 and includes one night of hotel stay, breakfast daily, a private vehicle for sightseeing, and Kaas Plateau entry when the season is open. Lunch and dinner, transport to and from Mumbai, and boating charges are not included. It is an easy, relaxed itinerary with minimal walking, suitable for families, couples and older travellers, with departures scheduled in August and September.
Based in Maharashtra, this easy 2-day trek is best attempted during June, July, August, September, October, November, December — when the trail and surroundings are at their most rewarding.

What is the Kaas Plateau and when can I visit?
Kaas Plateau is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that blooms with over 850 species of wildflowers. It is open only from August to October (about 8-10 weeks) during and after the monsoon. The rest of the year, we visit Lingmala Waterfall or Dhobi Waterfall instead.
Is Mahabaleshwar crowded on weekends?
Mahabaleshwar is a popular weekend destination, so it can get crowded on Saturdays and Sundays. We plan for early starts (6 AM) to beat the crowds at major viewpoints. Weekday departures are much quieter.
What is special about Mahabaleshwar's strawberries?
Mahabaleshwar produces India's best strawberries — the cool climate and red soil create ideal growing conditions. At Mapro Garden, you can eat fresh strawberry cream, try strawberry milkshakes, and buy preserves, jams, and syrups to carry back.

Yes — the trip involves minimal walking. Viewpoints are accessible by vehicle (short walks of 50-100 metres). The Kaas Plateau has a flat walking path suitable for all ages. The cool climate and relaxed pace make it ideal for families with elderly members.
