FAQs

What is Prabalmachi?

Prabalmachi is a high grassy plateau at the base of Prabalgad and Kalavantin Durg, about 4,300 ft above sea level near Panvel. It's the starting point for both forts and a beautiful camping spot in its own right.

How difficult is the Prabalmachi trek?

The trek is moderate. The climb from Thakurwadi village to Prabalmachi is around 2.5–3 hours through forest and rocky switchbacks. No technical climbing is needed, making it a great weekend trek.

What is included in the camping?

The package includes Mumbai return transport, a trek guide, tent stay with sleeping bag and mat, meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner), a bonfire subject to weather, and a first-aid kit.

Can we trek to Kalavantin Durg from Prabalmachi?

Yes, Kalavantin Durg starts from the Prabalmachi plateau and the pinnacle is clearly visible from the campsite. The climb to the summit involves steep steps and some exposed sections, so it's usually done on a separate day with a guide.

What should I carry for the camping?

Comfortable trekking shoes, a warm jacket and warm clothes for the night, 2L water, snacks, a torch or headlamp, and personal medicines. The plateau gets windy and cool at night, especially in winter.
