FAQs

Is Karnala Fort trek easy?

Yes, Karnala is one of the easiest fort treks near Mumbai. The climb is short, the trail is well-defined and mostly paved or forested, making it perfect for beginners, families and children above 6.

How long does the Karnala Fort trek take?

The round trip takes about 2.5–3 hours including summit time and a lunch break. From Mumbai, plan a relaxed half-day — roughly 7:00 am to 4:00 pm with the drive.

What is the Karnala Bird Sanctuary?

The Karnala Bird Sanctuary, which surrounds the fort, is home to over 150 resident and migratory bird species. Trekkers often spot woodpeckers, barbets, bulbuls and occasionally the rare Malabar trogon.

Is there water available on the trail?

There are a few taps near the sanctuary entrance, but no reliable water source on the trail itself. Carry at least 1.5–2 litres per person.
