Overview
Just 5 hours from Mumbai, Mahabaleshwar is Maharashtra's most popular hill station — and for good reason. Perched at 1,350 metres in the Western Ghats, it offers sweeping valley views, strawberry farms, ancient temples, and the legendary table Land that inspired Arthur Conan Doyle's Lost World.
This 2-day trip covers all the highlights — Arthur's Seat, Wilson Point sunrise, Mapro Garden, and a visit to the stunning Kaas Plateau (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), which blooms with over 850 species of wildflowers during the monsoon and post-monsoon season.
We travel by private vehicle or bus from Mumbai — no train needed, making this one of the most accessible getaways on the list.
Based in Maharashtra, this easy 2-day trek is best attempted during June, July, August, September, October, November, December — when the trail and surroundings are at their most rewarding.

FAQs
How do I reach Mahabaleshwar from Mumbai?
We travel by private vehicle or bus from Mumbai. The drive takes about 5 hours via the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway. No train is needed — this is one of the most accessible getaways from Mumbai.
What is the Kaas Plateau and when can I visit?
Kaas Plateau is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that blooms with over 850 species of wildflowers. It is open only from August to October (about 8-10 weeks) during and after the monsoon. The rest of the year, we visit Lingmala Waterfall or Dhobi Waterfall instead.
Is Mahabaleshwar crowded on weekends?
Mahabaleshwar is a popular weekend destination, so it can get crowded on Saturdays and Sundays. We plan for early starts (6 AM) to beat the crowds at major viewpoints. Weekday departures are much quieter.
What is special about Mahabaleshwar's strawberries?
Mahabaleshwar produces India's best strawberries — the cool climate and red soil create ideal growing conditions. At Mapro Garden, you can eat fresh strawberry cream, try strawberry milkshakes, and buy preserves, jams, and syrups to carry back.
Is this trip suitable for elders?
Yes — the trip involves minimal walking. Viewpoints are accessible by vehicle (short walks of 50-100 metres). The Kaas Plateau has a flat walking path suitable for all ages. The cool climate and relaxed pace make it ideal for families with elderly members.
