Mount Abu & Kumbhalgarh Trip
Overview
The Mount Abu Kumbhalgarh trip from Mumbai combines the relaxed charm of Rajasthan's only hill station — a cool green oasis in the desert state, perched at 1,220 metres in the Aravalli Range — with the grandeur of Kumbhalgarh, a UNESCO World Heritage Site fortress with the second-longest wall in the world after the Great Wall of China.
In Mount Abu, explore the breathtaking Dilwara Jain Temples carved from white marble, boat on Nakki Lake, and watch the sunset from Sunset Point or Honeymoon Point overlooking the plains below. The hill station's pine-shaded walks and colonial-era bungalows offer a perfect weekend escape.
Kumbhalgarh Fort, a 45-minute drive from Mount Abu, is a 15th-century marvel with a 36-km perimeter wall visible from space. The fort houses over 300 temples and offers panoramic views of the surrounding Aravalli Hills.
We travel from Mumbai by overnight train to Abu Road station, with a 30-minute drive up the hill.
The contrast between the two destinations is what makes the journey memorable — mornings among the serene white-marble temples of Dilwara, afternoons walking the ramparts of a medieval fortress, and evenings beside Nakki Lake as the sun drops behind the Aravallis. The region is easy to reach from Mumbai, and because everything except the train fare — two nights of accommodation, daily breakfast, a private vehicle, fort entry and guided temple tours — is included, you only need to pack light clothes, comfortable shoes and a light woollen for the cool hill evenings. October to March is the best season, when daytime temperatures stay comfortable and the hills are at their clearest, making this a relaxed 3-day escape to Rajasthan's only hill station.
Based in Rajasthan, this easy 3-day trek is best attempted during October, November, December, January, February, March — when the trail and surroundings are at their most rewarding.

FAQs
How do I reach Mount Abu from Mumbai?
We travel by overnight train from Mumbai to Abu Road station, followed by a 30-minute drive up the mountain to Mount Abu. The train details are shared after booking. Return is via the same route on day 3.
Is Mount Abu worth visiting?
Absolutely — it's Rajasthan's only hill station and offers a completely different experience from the desert cities. The Dilwara Jain Temples alone are worth the trip, with marble carving so intricate it's considered among the finest in India. The cool weather, serene Nakki Lake, and sunset views add to the charm.
What is the weather like in Mount Abu?
Mount Abu stays pleasant year-round. Summer (Apr-Jun): 25-35°C. Monsoon (Jul-Sep): lush greenery, occasional showers. Winter (Oct-Mar): 10-25°C — evenings can drop to 5°C, making it the best season for a visit. Carry light woollens from November onwards.
Can I visit Kumbhalgarh Fort on my own?
Yes, but the 36-km wall is best explored with a guide to understand its history and strategic design. The fort complex is large and includes palaces, temples, and stepwells. Our trip includes a guided tour with a local expert.
Is this trip suitable for elderly travellers?
Yes — the trip involves minimal walking. Dilwara Temples and Nakki Lake are easily accessible, and the drive to Kumbhalgarh is comfortable. The cool climate and relaxed pace make it ideal for all age groups.
