Manali & Solang Valley Trip
Overview
The Manali & Solang Valley Trip from Mumbai takes you to Manali, perched at 2,050 m in the Kullu Valley and the quintessential Himachali hill station. From snow-capped peaks and pine forests to adventure sports and Tibetan monasteries, Manali offers the complete Himalayan experience. Solang Valley, just 14 km from Manali, adds the thrill factor with paragliding, zorbing and snow-scooter rides on the glacier. Whether you're sipping chai at an Old Manali café or skiing down Solang's slopes, Manali is the Himalayan gateway every Mumbaikar should experience.
The Kullu Valley that holds both Manali and Solang is framed by the Pir Panjal range to the north and the Dhauladhar to the south, with the Beas River running through it from the Rohtang Pass. Manali town itself blends ancient temples with a lively backpacker scene: the 16th-century Hadimba Devi Temple sits in a grove of giant deodars, Vashisht village offers hot sulphur springs, and Old Manali's riverside cafés have drawn travellers for decades. The walk to Jogini Falls, a short trek above the town, rewards you with a cascade falling into a clear pool ringed by forest.
Beyond the town the valley floor rises quickly into high pastures and glacier country. Solang's wide open meadow is a winter ski slope and a summer adventure park, while Rohtang Pass, when open, marks the gateway to the cold Lahaul valley. From the sunset at Jogini Falls to the crisp winter air at 2,000 m, a Manali trip is the Himalaya in miniature — compact, spectacular and endlessly photographable.
Based in Himachal Pradesh, this easy 5-day trek is best attempted during June, October — when the trail and surroundings are at their most rewarding.
