Ladakh — Leh, Nubra & Pangong from Mumbai
Overview
Ladakh — the Land of High Passes — is India's most dramatic landscape. At an average altitude of 3,500 metres, this cold desert in the Trans-Himalayas offers landscapes that look otherworldly: turquoise lakes, moonscapes, ancient monasteries, and the world's highest motorable passes.
This 7-day expedition covers the Ladakh circuit — acclimatisation in Leh, a day exploring the Indus Valley monasteries (Thiksey, Hemis, Shey), the drive over Khardung La Pass (5,359m) into the Nubra Valley with its sand dunes and double-humped camels, and the spectacular Pangong Tso lake straddling the India-China border.
We fly from Mumbai to Leh (direct flights available) — the high altitude demands a careful acclimatisation schedule, which we build into the itinerary.
Based in Ladakh, this moderate 7-day trek is best attempted during May, June, July, August, September — when the trail and surroundings are at their most rewarding.

FAQs
How do I reach Ladakh from Mumbai?
We fly from Mumbai to Leh (direct flights available with IndiGo, SpiceJet, Vistara). Flight time is about 2.5 hours. The trip price does not include airfare — we share the best flight options after booking.
What about altitude sickness?
Leh is at 3,500m — altitude sickness is a real concern. Our itinerary is designed with a full day of rest and acclimatisation on day one. We recommend consulting your doctor about Diamox (acetazolamide) before the trip. Stay hydrated, avoid alcohol, and walk slowly.
What is the best time to visit Ladakh?
May to September is the tourist season. June-August offers the best weather (15-25°C daytime). Roads open by May (after winter snow clears) and close in October. July-August is peak season with all routes and passes open.
Is the Pangong Tso road rough?
The road from Leh to Pangong Tso has improved significantly. About 70% is paved now, with some rough patches. The drive takes 5-6 hours from Leh and is one of the most scenic in the world — barren mountains, turquoise rivers, and high-altitude passes.
What should I pack for Ladakh?
Layers are key — thermal base layer, fleece, and a windproof jacket. Even in summer, evenings drop to 5-10°C. Strong sunscreen (SPF 50+), UV sunglasses, lip balm, and moisturiser are essential — the sun at 3,500m+ is intense. A reusable water bottle with hydration sleeves is very useful.
