Canyon Valley Waterfall Rappelling
Overview
Canyon Valley is a narrow gorge hidden in the Sahyadri hills that fills with flowing water during the monsoon, creating a natural adventure course of small waterfalls, rock slides, and deep plunge pools. This is a canyoning trip — not a walk in the park — requiring you to rappel down a series of waterfall cascades, slide down smooth rock chutes into pools below, and swim or wade through the canyon sections between. The scale is small enough that no technical climbing experience is needed (every rappel is on a fixed rope with a belay), but a reasonable level of fitness, comfort in water, and a willingness to get scraped are prerequisites. It is one of the most fun day trips in Maharashtra during monsoon.
Based in Maharashtra, this moderate 1-day trek is best attempted during June, July, August, September, October — when the trail and surroundings are at their most rewarding.

FAQs
Do I need any prior rappelling experience?
No prior experience needed. Every rappel is on a fixed rope with a top belay managed by our certified guides. You will be briefed on the technique and safety signals before entering the canyon. Comfort in water and a reasonable fitness level are the only prerequisites.
What is the water temperature like?
The water in the canyon is cool and refreshing but not freezing. During the peak monsoon (July-August), it can be chilly, and a light wetsuit top or rashguard helps. In late monsoon (September-October), the temperature is pleasant.
What if I cannot swim?
Life jackets are provided and worn throughout the canyon section. You do not need to be a strong swimmer as the pool sections are short and you are always in a life jacket under supervision. However, you should be comfortable being in the water.
What should I wear and carry?
Wear quick-dry synthetic clothing (not cotton — cotton gets heavy when wet). Old sports shoes with good grip that can get wet and muddy are ideal. Bring a full change of dry clothes for after the activity, a towel, and a waterproof bag for your phone and valuables.
Is this activity available outside the monsoon season?
No. Canyon Valley is a seasonal canyon that only flows during the monsoon (typically June to October). Outside this window, the waterfalls dry up and the canyon is not suitable for canyoning. We only run this trip during the active monsoon months.
