Dandeli Gokarna Murudeshwar & Honnavar

4.5 (5 reviews)

Overview

This Dandeli, Gokarna & Murudeshwar trip pairs the adrenaline of Dandeli — India's white-water rafting capital on the Kali River — with the laid-back beaches of Gokarna and the Murudeshwar temple town on the Karnataka coast.

This trip pairs the adrenaline of Dandeli — India's white-water rafting capital on the Kali River — with the laid-back beaches of the Karnataka coast. Raft down Grade 3–4 rapids surrounded by dense jungles, spot gharials and macaques, then trade the river for the sea at Gokarna's crescent beaches. Tower over the coast at Murudeshwar's 123-ft Shiva statue, and finish at Honnavar, where the Sharavathi meets the sea through mangroves and hidden islands. It is the perfect adventure-and-relaxation combination in a single road trip.

This Dandeli, Gokarna, Murudeshwar road trip runs over six days and starts with an overnight bus from Mumbai to Hubli, then winds down the coast from the Kali River to the Arabian Sea. In Dandeli you stay at a jungle resort on the edge of the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary, where mornings start with bird calls and afternoons are spent on the river. The rafting is the heart of the experience — nine kilometres of Grade 3–4 rapids with safety kayak support — but the sanctuary's forest trails, the natural water slide at Supyat Nala, and a gypsy safari for deer, macaques and hornbills round out the stay.

From the river, the trip shifts to the beaches of Gokarna — Kudle Beach and Om Beach for sunset, then a coastal walk or boat hop to Half Moon and Paradise Beach. The coast continues to Murudeshwar, where the 123-foot Shiva statue faces the sea, and on to Honnavar for the Apsarakonda waterfall and the Sharavathi backwaters. The package covers five nights of hotel or resort stays, breakfast daily, lunch and dinner through most days, the rafting session with gear, the jungle safari, local transfers and a guide, making it a complete adventure holiday from Mumbai, Pune or Bangalore.

Based in Karnataka, this moderate 6-day trek is best attempted during March, October — when the trail and surroundings are at their most rewarding.
