Rajmachi Fireflies Festival 2026
Overview
Every year in May and early June, the forests around the twin forts of Rajmachi — Shrivardhan and Manaranjan — turn into a living constellation. Thousands of fireflies (jugnu) glow in synchronised bursts across the tree line at dusk, creating one of the most magical natural spectacles in the Sahyadris. The Rajmachi Fireflies Festival is a weekend of night trekking, forest camping, and firefly gazing from the ridge above Udhewadi village.
We start from Mumbai on Saturday morning, drive to the base, and trek up the Rajmachi trail through rolling grass slopes. As darkness falls, the fireflies emerge in waves — a silent, twinkling light show that fills the valley below the fort. We camp at Udhewadi village, have a bonfire dinner, and spend the next morning exploring the Rajmachi fort ruins and the Shrivardhan-Manaranjan ridge before trekking back down.
The Rajmachi fireflies season is short and weather-dependent — the glow is strongest on warm, still nights with no moon. This makes every Rajmachi fireflies festival trek a once-a-year, first-come-first-served adventure.
At ₹2,499, the Rajmachi Fireflies Festival from Mumbai includes transport, night camping at Udhewadi, dinner and breakfast, and a certified trek leader. With the firefly glow visible right from the campsite, it is the most immersive firefly weekend near Mumbai and a firm favourite with repeat trekkers.
Based in Sahyadri, this moderate 2-day trek is best attempted during May, June — when the trail and surroundings are at their most rewarding.

FAQs
When is the best time for the Rajmachi Fireflies Festival?
The Rajmachi fireflies season runs from early May to mid-June, just before the monsoon breaks. The firefly glow is strongest on warm, still, moonless nights — which is why our batches are timed for the last two weeks of May and the first two of June.
How difficult is the Rajmachi fireflies trek?
The Rajmachi trek is rated Moderate. It is about 8 km each way with a gradual ascent through grass slopes and forest. A basic level of fitness is enough; the reward at the top — the firefly light show — is worth every step.
Where do we camp during the fireflies festival?
We camp at Udhewadi village, the base village below the twin Rajmachi forts. Tents, sleeping bags, and a bonfire are provided. The fireflies light up the forest around the campsite itself, so the show starts right outside your tent.
How do I book the Rajmachi Fireflies Festival from Mumbai?
Book directly through the Mumbai Weekenders website or WhatsApp. The fireflies season is short and batches fill up fast — we recommend booking at least a week in advance.
