Gokarna Dandeli Trip

4.6 (6 reviews)

Overview

This 4-day trip flips the classic Karnataka route — beaches first, adventure second. Start on Gokarna's crescent shores: walk the beach trail from Kudle to Om, boat out to the hidden Half Moon and Paradise beaches, and visit the Mahabaleshwar Temple. Then drive inland to Dandeli, India's white-water rafting capital on the Kali River, for Grade 3–4 rapids, a jungle safari and the natural forest water slide of Supyat Nala. Same highlights as our Dandeli & Gokarna trip, in the opposite order.

Gokarna sits on Karnataka's Uttara Kannada coast, a small temple town of golden-sand beaches and backpacker cafés that has long been a fixture on India's western coast. Beyond the main beach, the famous shoreline trail links a string of coves — Kudle, Om, Half Moon and Paradise — each quieter than the last, with Half Moon's fine sand and the reef-ringed shallows of Paradise at the far end. The Mahabaleshwar Temple at the heart of the town houses the celebrated atma-linga and anchors a character that sits easily alongside the beach shacks.

Dandeli, in contrast, is set deep in the Western Ghats on the banks of the Kali River. Known as India's white-water capital, its Grade 3–4 rapids draw rafters from across the country, while the surrounding Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary shelters black panthers, hornbills, crocodiles and over 200 species of birds. That contrast — the calm of a coastal beach town and the adrenaline of river rafting — is exactly what this Gokarna Dandeli Trip delivers, all within a single four-day Karnataka road trip from Mumbai.

Based in Karnataka, this moderate 4-day trek is best attempted during October, November, December, January, February, March — when the trail and surroundings are at their most rewarding.

What is the rafting season?

The Kali River runs through the monsoon (Jun–Sep) at maximum flow, and Oct–Mar offers the best balance of thrills and manageable conditions.

Can I do the Gokarna Dandeli Trip without the rafting?

Yes — swap the rafting day for a kayak or coracle ride and jungle safari instead. Let us know when booking.
