Daman & Silvassa Weekend Trip

4.5 (5 reviews)

Overview

Daman and Silvassa — two neighbouring Union Territories on the Gujarat–Maharashtra border — offer a uniquely diverse weekend escape. Daman brings Portuguese colonial charm with its beaches, forts, and port wine; Silvassa delivers lush green forests, tribal culture, and wildlife. Together, they create a short but rich road trip from Mumbai that packs beaches, history, nature, and great seafood into a single weekend.

The itinerary is built for a full weekend from Mumbai. Day one departs the city at 6 am from pickup points in Andheri, Dadar, Thane and Vashi, reaching Daman by mid-morning for the fort, the lighthouse, Devka Beach and Jampore Beach at sunset, with overnight stay in the town. Day two crosses to Silvassa for the Vasona Lion & Deer Safari, boating at Dudhni Lake, the Tribal Cultural Museum, and the drive back to Mumbai by early evening.

Daman is one of the closest beach towns to Mumbai — roughly a four-hour drive — which makes it an easy weekend getaway, while Silvassa, just 45 minutes from Daman, is a compact Union Territory of dense forest and tribal villages. The package includes return transport from Mumbai, one night in an AC hotel room, lunch on both days, dinner on day one and breakfast on day two, a guide, and all entry fees including the Vasona Safari. Boating charges, personal expenses and extra snacks are not included, so budget a little extra for the lake ride.

Based in Gujarat, this easy 2-day trek is best attempted during April, October — when the trail and surroundings are at their most rewarding.

FAQs

Do I need a permit for a Daman & Silvassa Trip from Mumbai?

No — both are Indian Union Territories and no permits are required for Indian citizens.

Is Daman safe for swimming?

Devka Beach has gentle waves in season but can have strong currents during monsoon. We recommend swimming only at marked safe zones.

What is special about Silvassa?

It's the capital of Dadra & Nagar Haveli — a tiny UT known for its dense forests, tribal communities (Warli, Dhodia), and excellent wildlife safari.
