Kumta to Gokarna Beach Trek
Overview
The Kumta to Gokarna beach trek is Karnataka's classic coastal trail. Starting at the town of Kumta, you walk inland paths, forest trails and cliff-top sections that connect to Gokarna's legendary beaches — Gokarna, Kudle, Om, Half Moon and Paradise — before finishing at Om Beach. Expect lush green hills on one side, the Arabian Sea on the other, and a well-earned swim at the end of each day.
The trail follows the old footpath that coastal villagers have used for generations, linking Kumta to the temple town of Gokarna without ever touching the main road. It climbs gently through coconut and areca groves, crosses shallow streams, and then rises onto the headlands that separate the beaches, where the path runs along cliff edges with the sea glittering below. Gokarna town itself, one of the most important Shiva pilgrimage sites on the west coast, holds the Mahabaleshwar Temple and a famous beachside bazaar.
Because the trek ends where the beaches begin, you can trade your shoes for a swim within minutes of finishing each day's walk. Camping is right on the sand at Kudle, with the sound of the surf for company, and the final morning rewards early risers with the classic view over Om Beach's two bays. It's a compact, scenic two-day coastal adventure that fits neatly into a Mumbai weekend.
Based in Uttara Kannada, this moderate 2-day trek is best attempted during October, November, December, January, February, March — when the trail and surroundings are at their most rewarding.

It's moderate. The route mixes easy beach walking with forest trails and a few uphill cliff sections. Good fitness and comfortable shoes are enough — no technical climbing involved.
What are the beaches on the Gokarna trail?
The trek connects Gokarna's five beaches: Gokarna Main Beach, Kudle Beach, the iconic Om Beach, Half Moon Beach and Paradise Beach. Each has its own character, and swimming stops are built into the itinerary.

October to March is the best season — pleasant temperatures, clear water and calm seas. Summers are hot and the monsoon (June–September) makes the forest trail muddy and slippery.
